Space Force looking to buy a couple of Yamaha WaveRunners for crewmember rescue operations

US Space Force needs two Yamaha VX-C WaveRunners with a compatible trailer to use for crewmember rescues in support of the space program, the organization announced on Sam.gov.

Offers are due August 3, and the WaveRunners must be shipped to Cape Canaveral Space Station, Fla. All questions regarding the solicitation must be submitted by 5 pm. EST, July 29 2021 to natalie.wesely@us.af.mil and terry.clark.6@spaceforce.mil .

VX-C WaveRunners start at about $9,100 according to Yamaha.

Space Force currently owns several Yamaha WaveRunners. The Yamaha VX-C WaveRunner is a lower model that is equivalent to the organization’s current inventory. The jet skis/wave runners are required to complete both the rescue force instructor course and the rescue qualification course, according to the announcement

The new WaveRunners will provide the organization’s personnel equipment for training for real-world missions and complete their rescue certifications.

Additionally, Space Force has spare parts for the Yamaha WaveRunners. The spare parts are required to maintain operational capability. Furthermore, the spare parts are compatible and can be used for the Yamaha VX-C WaveRunners. Purchasing other than Yamaha brand name would not be cost effective and would increase cost to purchase other spare parts, according to the announcement.

The Yamaha VX-C WaveRunners must have reverse function capability. The Yamaha VX-C WaveRunners feature 1-2 person rider capacity with a 3-cylinder, 4-stroke TR-1 marine engine. The trailer must be compatible with the Yamaha VX-C WaveRunners and also have the ability to haul both of the WaveRunners.

The trailer must also be lightweight and rust proof.

Delivery date is for Aug 31, 2021.
