FDA plans to upgrade its public and internal data dashboards, seeks input from tech industry

The Food and Drug Administration plans to upgrade data dashboards used both by the public and by FDA staff, and wants input from industry on the technology options to make this upgrade, FDA officials announced. 

The dashboards are designed to provide better understanding and accountability of data through easy to use, visually accessible, and understandable presentation of the data, according to the FDA request.

The purpose of this RFI is to help the FDA understand the industry best practices and technical solutions capable of providing the upgrades. 

The FDA’s goal consists of expanding the use of its dashboard solution to include public and internal facing dashboards to promote transparency and accountability. To achieve that goal, the FDA’s objective is to seek a wider adoption of its dashboards by its leaders and managers who will contribute, through the use of those dashboards, to the improvement of the agency’s data quality.  

The increased use of the dashboard will allow users to easily spot key trends and exceptions that represent potential public health risks. The dashboard solution will help FDA strengthen its collaboration with other public health agencies at the international, federal, state, and local levels, by leveraging their expertise and resources, through the timely exchange of data, resulting in effective solutions for public health and safety.
