Marine Corps Installations Command purchases technology to identify and remove impostor social media accounts
The Marine Corps Installations Command awarded a $1.1 million contract to GuidePoint Security to provide technology to discover, report, and remove impostor social media accounts.
GuidePoint Security provides cyber security solutions and expertise, according to the company’s website. GuidePoint helps customers recognize threats, understand solutions, and mitigate risks present in their evolving IT environments.
For this contract, the Marine Corps sought a Commercial-Off-the-Shelf automated social networking technology to provide the identification and removal of impostors, according to the announcement.
“The COTS capability will be used to protect the best interests of the USMC. Using the latest available COTS automation technology will reduce both human and network resource expenditure, time and work factor efforts allowing for a more comprehensive social media review,” it states.
The technology will also be used in the integrating of the discovery of malware and trends with hashtags as an additional aspect of discovery to identify trending topics in the USMC. This information will be used for quickly determining threat agents as an entry point for malware and impersonators trying to gain followership through discussion topics.
